Ilia Calderon, a news anchor for Univision bravely confronted a leader of the Klu Klux Klan. While Calderon was tying to do her job KKK leader Christian Barker called her the ‘N’ word and threatened to burn her.
Apparently Barker was informed that the interview would be conducted by Calderon and he readily agreed. During the interview Barker also stated “Don’t matter. We killed 6 million Jews the last time. Eleven million is nothing,”. This was in reply to questions on his resolution for removing immigrants from the US.
When Calderon quizzed him on these extraordinarily offensive and hate filled views he replied:
“To me you’re a nigger. That’s it. That’s it to me,”
“I find that offensive,” Replied Calderon, managing to keep composure. “My skin colour doesn’t define me.”
Strangely however when asked the question on whether or not he was a racist Barker replied “No. I think everyone deserves the right to live.”
The KKK has seen somewhat of a worrying resurgence in recent times. Blame has been laid at the feet of President Trump and other prominent politicians that many believe should be doing more to combat these sentiments. Attempts by protesters are being made to bring down confederate statues which many believe incite racism. There is currently a popular petition to replace confederate monuments with statues of pop icon Britney Spears.
